This exhibit illustrates the various degrees of burn injuries, including first, second, and third degree burns. In a first degree burn, only the outer layers of the epidermis are injured. The skin is red, but no blistering occurs. Second degree burns include both superficial and deep partial thickness injuries, and includes blistering. A third degree burn is a full thickness injury that involves the total destruction of the epidermis and dermis.
