The exhibit features a lateral release and medial imbrication procedure to improve patellar movement. The lateral retinaculum is cut to allow the patella to shift medially. Additionally, the tibial tubercle is cut with an osteotome to further shift the patella. Once shifted over, the cut portion of the tibial tubercle is reattached to the tibia with screws. Recovery time for this procedure is several months to a year.
