The exhibit illustrates unilateral right lumbar spinal surgery to remove a herniated disc at L5-S1 and insert an interbody cage. Anteriorly, herniated disc material is removed with a rongeur and the disc space prepared for insertion of the cage and mixed bone graft. The cage is held in place with screws. Posteriorly, hemilaminotomy and foraminotomy procedures are performed at the L5-S1 level. Bone graft is held in place with a rod and pedicle screws to stabilize the vertebrae and complete the procedure.
