The exhibit illustrates healthy versus cancerous anatomy of the right breast and lymph nodes. During breast cancer, a carcinoma is often detected as a solid mass with thickened skin. In the presence of a cancerous mass, axillary and supraclavicular lymph nodes can become swollen as increased infection-fighting cells arrive via the lymphatic system to fight the carcinoma.
