Decubitius ulcers, also known as pressure or bed sores, require surgical treatment to prevent infection and promote healing of the affected area. The exhibit illustrates the four stages of a decubitus heel ulcer as it develops from skin discoloration in Stage I to tissue damage and necrosis extending down to bone in Stage IV.
