Enucleation of Eye with Implant - Medical Animation
The animation illustrates the surgical removal of the left eye in a procedure known as enucleation. It is the removal of the eye that leaves the eye muscles and remaining orbital contents intact. This type of ocular surgery is indicated for a number of ocular tumors, in eyes that are otherwise blind and painful, and in eyes that have suffered severe trauma. The extraocular muscles are separated from the globe and the optic nerve is cut. An implant is inserted in the orbit and the eye muscles are sutured around the implant.
