This animation depicts an open reduction and internal fixation of an open comminuted fracture and dislocation of the left distal radius and ulna. The open wound is irrigated and debrided. The fracture is manually reduced, then stabilized with k-wires. This also stabilizes the radial articular surface and the radioulnar joint. Pins are placed in the radius and 2nd metacarpal, which are used in the application of an external fixator.
