The exhibit illustrates a typical left total knee replacement. The preoperative condition of the knee joint usually includes arthritis. An incision along with an arthrotomy of the joint is made to expose the knee joint. The distal femur & proximal tibia are resected using an intramedullary jig and bone saw. The patella surface is also prepared with a jig and saw. Once all surfaces are prepared and the trial components are sized, the femoral and tibial components, spacer and patellar button are placed. The knee joint is reduced and the total knee prosthesis is tested.
