The exhibit illustrates open surgery of the left hand to treat trigger thumb, a painful condition resulting from an inflamed tendon causing the thumb to "lock" in a bent position. During the surgery, the first annular (A1) pulley of the Flexor pollicis longus tendon is exposed and released from its sheath with scissors. This procedure relieves the pressure and inflammation, allowing the thumb to unlock and function normally.
