The exhibit depicts the anterior cervical discectomy and fusion at C5-6. Disc material is extracted from the disc space between the vertebrae using rongeurs to prepare for drilling of the C5-6 end plate. After the discectomy and foraminotomy are completed, a a cage is filled with mixed graft and is inserted into the C5-6 disc space. Finally a plate with screws is placed over the cage, stabilizing the vertebrae.
