This animation depicts an anterior cervical discectomy and fusion at C6-7. After retraction and exposure at the C6-7 level, distraction pins are placed. Disc material is extracted from the disc space between the vertebrae using rongeurs and an extruded disc fragment and posterior longitudinal ligament are removed. Then bilateral foraminotomies are performed and the end plates are prepared. An implant with mixed graft is inserted into the C6-7 disc space. Finally a plate with screws is placed over the cage, stabilizing the vertebrae.
