The exhibit illustrates open surgery of the lumbar spine to treat a herniated disc at L5-S1. Laminectomy and discectomy procedures are performed before preparing the end plates for placement of an interbody cage with mixed bone graft. Next pedicle screws and more bone graft are placed to stabilize the area and complete the surgery.
